Tipsarevic began playing at age six and in
1993 , at age eight, started playing atNew Belgrade Tennis Club with Russian coach Roman Savochkin.As a junior, he won the
2001 Australian Open title in boys' singles; reached the quarterfinals at the French Open; and finished No. 2 in the world junior rankings in2001 . The same year he made a debut on the YugoslavDavis Cup team, winning three points againstPoland . The following week, he won his first career Futures title in his home city ofBelgrade . In2002 , he won his second futures title inMexico .After winning his first tournament from
ATP Challenger Series inGermany , he made ATP debut atIndianapolis in2003 ; after beating fellowSerb Nenad Zimonjic in the first round, he then lost in the second round toYevgeny Kafelnikov in straight sets. Belgrade ,Serbia (thenSFR Yugoslavia ). His father, Pavle, is a professor; mother, Vesna, is a housewife. He has also a younger brother, Veljko. He finished high school and in 2006 completed university studies in Belgrade, studying Sports Management.His love of classic literature is often mentioned by commentators and the press as something unusual for a high-level athlete. He has a quotation, tattooed in Japanese, fromDostoyevsky ("Beauty will save the world", from "The Idiot") on his left arm. He also has a Japanese tattoo on his right arm, which represent the first two letters of the names of his father, his mother, himself and his brother, in Katakana.
