Humphrey T. Walwyn

Sir Humphrey Thomas Walwyn, CMG (b. January 25 1879 - d. December 29 1957) served most of his life in the Royal Navy rising to the position of Vice-Admiral of the Royal Indian Navy retiring in 1934.

He was educated at Dartmouth Britannia Royal Naval College and joined the Royal Navy in 1895.

From 1936 to 1946, he was governor of Newfoundland and chairman of the Commission of Government.

During World War II he was active in encouraging Newfoundlanders to join the war effort. In 1946, he retired to Dorset, England.

Family

His wife, Lady Eileen Walwyn, was created a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1947.
