John Waine

John Waine KCVO (born 20th June 1930) was Bishop of Chelmsford from 1986 to 1996; and previously Bishop of Saint Edmundsbury and Ipswich from 1978 to 1986 [The Times, Wednesday, Jun 07, 1978; pg. 20; Issue 60321; col E Church news Next Bishop of St Edmundsbury] , Bishop of Stafford, 1975-78. He also served as Clerk of the Closet from 1989 to 1997, and in retirement served as a lay member on the Press Complaints Commission [ [http://www.pcc.org.uk/news/?article=NDQxMA Joins PCC] ] . Educated at Prescot Grammar School and the University of Manchester he studied for ordination at Ridley Hall, Cambridge before embarking on an ecclesiastical career with a Curacy at St Mary's, West Derby [ [http://www.stmarywestderby.org/ Church web site] ] (Liverpool).
