List of Ouran High School Host Club episodes

Ouran High School Host Club is an anime series adapted from the manga of the same title by Bisco Hatori. It began broadcasting on April 4, 2006 on Nippon Television, and ended on September 26, 2006. The series was directed by Takuya Igarashi and written by Yōji Enokido (Revolutionary Girl Utena, The Melody of Oblivion) , while the character designer and chief animation director for the series was Kumiko Takahashi (Cardcaptor Sakura). It also features a different cast from the audio dramas, with Maaya Sakamoto starring as Haruhi Fujioka and Mamoru Miyano portraying Tamaki Suou. Ouran High School Host Club finished its run on September 26, 2006, totaling to twenty-six episodes.

The series is licensed for distribution in North America by FUNimation Entertainment, set for release across the region in summer 2008. Caitlin Glass is the ADR director of the series. FUNimation announced two cast members every Friday on their website for the series which led up to the main cast announcements at Anime Expo 2008. The first anime DVD set containing the first thirteen episodes was released on October 28, 2008 in North America; and the second volume became available on January 6, 2009 containing the last thirteen episodes.

Scholarship student Haruhi Fujioka arrives at the elite private school Ouran Academy where she is mistaken for a boy due to her male appearance and personality. Haruhi stumbles upon the host club, in abandoned "Music Room 3", while looking for a quiet place to study and, while trying to escape, accidentally breaks a vase costing eight million yen. To pay off the debt, Haruhi is forced to become a host and obtain one hundred "requests" from customers. One by one, the other host members come to realize Haruhi's true gender except for Tamaki Suou. Haruhi later gets into a fight with Ayanokoji, one of Tamaki's jealous customers, changing her quota to one thousand customers. The fight is broken up when Haruhi and Ayanokoji are doused with water, requiring Haruhi to change into a dry girl's, uniform. At this point, Tamaki walks in on her while she is undressed, discovering her to be a girl. 
02 "The Job of a High School Host!"

The host club finds out that one of their regular customers, Kanako Kasugazaki, one of the few that skips from host to host regularly, is having trouble with her fiancé, Toru Suzushina. The group then cooks up a plan to help, involving a dance, in which the "queen" of the dance would receive a kiss on the cheek from Tamaki. However, when Kanako is chosen as the queen, Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin announce that Haruhi would be giving the kiss. Tamaki realizes this will be Haruhi's first kiss and, jealous, runs to stop her and accidentally pushes her. Haruhi ends up kissing Kanako on the lips instead. This makes Haruhi embarrassed, not only because she is not a boy, but that Kanako's fiancee was watching. However, he decides that the kiss does not count and reunites with Kanako. 
03 "Beware the Physical Exam!"

The time has come for the school's physical examinations, so the host club must find a way to protect Haruhi's secret for being a female. Their attempts, including Tamaki disguising himself as Haruhi, fail miserably until Kyoya Otori steps in, with a doctor who promises not to reveal her secret. Meanwhile, someone accused of attempting to "make a pass" on one of the female students, Dr. Yabu, is actually searching for his daughter after she and her mother left him due to financial problems. Kyoya points out that, if the man's family is really that poor, the girl would be attending Ouran Public High School, rather than the prestigious and very expensive Ouran Academy. Tamaki gives him directions, explaining that, even though he might get hurt later, it's up to him to find the truth. 
04 "Attack of the Lady Manager!"
"Joshi Manējā Shūrai" (女子マネージャー襲来)

The host club must deal with their new self-asserted manageress, Renge Hoshakuji, a French otaku who claims to be Kyoya's fiancée. She decides to enhance the roles of the host club by allowing them to cosplay a dark side of them. Eventually, this leads to Renge making a movie for the host club, with each host acting out their new roles. She gathers two students to play villains in this movie, however they never agreed to do such a thing. Haruhi attempts to protect Renge from their meager attacks, dislodging her contact-lens in the process, causing her to appear to be crying in pain. Tamaki hurries over, angry at the thought someone has hurt her, only to find out that it was her contact that fell out. Haruhi finally helps Renge understand to know someone by who they are and not by what they seem to be. Unfortunately, the movie that was made by Renge was sold throughout the whole academy, to apparent universal acclaim, by Kyoya by saving the film before breaking the camera lens and lessening the violence. 
05 "The Twins Fight!"
"Futago Kenkasuru" (双子ケンカする)

Hikaru and Kaoru beg to be allowed to visit Haruhi's home, but she refuses. Haruhi comments about the differences between Hikaru and Kaoru, which triggers a fight between the inseparable siblings, even making them dye their hair different colors, blue and pink, in order to be told apart. The feud between the twins leads to them fighting constantly. Eventually Kaoru is about to use the Belzenef doll which he obtained from Umehito Nekozawa, the president of the black magic club, and threatens to write Hikaru's name on the back of the Belzenef doll, completing the curse. However, Haruhi intervenes and snatches the Belzenef doll from Kaoru. When Haruhi finally stands up to their fighting, she tells the twins that if they apologize to each other then they can come to her house. However, she then turns the Belzenef doll over, seeing that "blank" was written on its back, revealing that it was all just a trick by the twins to be allowed to visit Haruhi's house. Haruhi knows that was clever, but she is still quite angry. 
06 "The Grade School Host is the Naughty Type!"
"Shōgakusei Hosuto wa Yancha-kei" (小学生ホストはやんちゃ系)

An elementary school brat, Shiro Takaoji, seeks help from the host club to win the heart of women. Renge helps develop a role for him, being a naughty type. However, Shiro denounces the whole club as idiots and runs away. The host club infiltrate the elementary school, disguising Haruhi as a middle-school student and Mitsukuni "Honey" Haninozuka as an elementary-school student. The club then discovers that Shiro has a crush on a girl who would soon be moving away. Tamaki explains to that Shiro only wants to win the heart of the girl he has a crush on, Hina Kamishiro, by joining the classical music club and playing the piano with her to make her happy. Shiro learns his part of the piano duet he was supposed to have played with her, and the host club ends up allowing Shiro and Hina to have a small concert in the host club lounge. 
07 "Jungle Pool SOS!"
"Janguru Pūru SOS" (ジャングルプールSOS)

The host club drags Haruhi to an artificial tropical water park, but an accident involving the wave pool separates Honey from the rest of the gang. Haruhi and Takashi "Mori" Morinozuka separate from the rest of the group to look for him, and Mori carries Haruhi due to the fact that she is scared of the jungle animals. Haruhi wonders aloud about Honey and Mori's relationship, and then twins explain that they are in fact cousins by marriage. Meanwhile, Kyoya hires guards to look for Honey as well as to arrest any suspicious people. However, they end up mistaking Haruhi as what Kyoya had described Honey as, as well as mistaking Mori as a suspicious person. Honey swings in on a vine, amazing Haruhi with his martial arts ability, as he quickly subdues the guards. The guards apologize to Honey for attacking him, realizing that Honey is actually a world-renowned martial-artist. The host club reunites, as Haruhi mentions that she would rather enjoy visiting an actual beach. 
08 "The Sun, the Sea, and the Host Club!"
"Taiyō to Umi to Hosuto-bu" (太陽と海とホスト部)

The host club, along with some of the customers, visits a beach in Okinawa upon Haruhi's request. Hikaru and Kaoru devise a game to find out Haruhi's phobia. Kyoya hypes up the competition by offering up photos of Haruhi in middle school, refusing to explain where he got them. However, Haruhi is thrown into the sea, after defending some girls who were being intimidated by a pair of drunken punks. Tamaki rebukes Haruhi for being so reckless, causing them to avoid each other for the day. Kyoya appears to try to sexually assault Haruhi, only to reveal her vulnerability, convincing her to apologize to Tamaki. Tamaki wins the competition discreetly in the end, finding out she has brontophobia, the fear of thunder and lightning, when he sees Haruhi hiding in a closet. However, the rest of the host club walks in at the most inappropriate moment, as he covers her ears and eyes to help deal with the phobia. Unfortunately, the rest of the host club misperceives Tamaki involving Haruhi in sexual activity, or as they said S&M. 
09 "A Challenge from Lobelia Girls' Academy!"
"Roberia Jogakuin no Chōsen" (ロベリア女学院の挑戦)

Benio "Benibara" Amakusa, head of the Zuka club at Lobelia Girls' Academy, chances upon Haruhi and, instantly recognizing that she is a girl, tries to convince her to join her school and her club. Convinced that Haruhi will leave them, the boys dress up as girls to show Haruhi that she could be around boys and girls at the same time. Haruhi reveals that she came to Ouran Academy for a reason, and says that she was never planning to leave for Lobelia Girls' Academy in the first place. The Zuka club girls leave, but refuse to give up, warning the club that they will be back for Haruhi. 
10 "A Day in the Life of the Fujioka Family!"
"Fujioka-ke no Nichijō" (藤岡家の日常)

Interested in the unknown ways of a "commoner's lifestyle", the host club makes an unannounced appearance at Haruhi's house to meet her family and see how she lives. Unintentionally, all the club members make themselves rather unwelcome, constantly commenting on how small the house is, and asking for things. Then, just as Haruhi is leaving to get food for lunch, her father, Ryoji "Ranka" Fujioka, arrives, revealing that he is a transvestite. Haruhi then leaves, and Ranka asks the host club to come with him as he follows Haruhi, partly to watch Haruhi being so independent, and partly so that he can be seen with a group of handsome boys. Tamaki then realizes how independent Haruhi is, as well as some reasons why. 
11 "Big Brother is a Prince!"

A small girl, Kirimi Nekozawa, wonders into Ouran Academy searching for her brother who attends the school. Her brother is Umehito Nekozawa. She chances upon the Host Club, and tells them her story. Tamaki enlists the help of Renge in teaching Nekozawa to become the princely figure his little sister is convinced he is. She lives her life waiting for her princely brother to save her from the monster in her house, who is actually Nekozawa in his cloak and wig, having to cover his skin and hair due to photophobia and his sensitivity to light. Tamaki and Renge help him to learn to act princely and to avoid occult references, and help him face his photophobia, convincing him that it is just psychological. Eventually this leads to him saving Kirimi from a large, unfriendly cat, since she has ailurophobia, the fear of cats. This convinces her of his bravery, despite the wig and cloak that he wears. Despite him overcoming his photophobia, he still succumbs to his sensitivity to it and collapses afterwards. This makes the host club believe that they were wasting their time, but in reality, Kirimi appears to be able to accept Nekozawa, even in his cloak and wig. 
12 "Honey's Three Bitter Days"

Honey gets his first cavity, and the number one rule until the cavity is fixed is no desserts or snacks. Honey attempts to try out many strategies to be able to eat a dessert or a snack, but to no avail. He then takes his frustration out on Mori by judo-throwing him, as Mori is being strict on Honey. However, Honey realizes that Mori was punishing himself for not telling him to brush his teeth twice a day. A few days later, Honey's cavity is relieved, thereby being allowed to eat desserts and snacks again. 
13 "Haruhi in Wonderland!"
"Fushigi no Kuni no Haruhi" (不思議の国のハルヒ)

Haruhi's dream about the day of her admission into Ouran High School becomes an illusionary Alice in Wonderland fantasy. Her friends try to tell Haruhi something important, but she only realizes it when in court. At the end of the dream, she meets her mom, Kotoko Fujioka, as the Queen of Hearts, who tells her to "enjoy a dream like student life." She wakes up with tears in her eyes, and sees the host club dressed up in costumes similar to the ones they wore in her dream. She ends the episode by commenting on how the host club has too much fun. 
14 "Covering The Famous Host Club!"
"Uwasa no Hosuto-bu o Shuzaise yo" (噂のホスト部を取材せよ)

The ailing newspaper club wants to obtain an interview with the popular host club in order to save it from being disbanded due to the lack of public interest. However, it is known that the newspaper club writes about gossip and scandals. The newspaper club president, Akira Komatsuzawa, wants to interview the host club, in particular to get information about Tamaki. Komatsuzawa believes that Tamaki is using his parents' power to control the popular students, and he wants to exploit that information to the entire student body. After the newspaper observes the host club playing outdoor children's games, they weren't able to scoop up any evidence about Tamaki. Komatsuzawa says he will just make up something to get back at Tamaki, yet is thwarted by the Host Club. 
15 "The Refreshing Battle in Karuizawa!"
"Karuizawa Sawayaka Batoru" (軽井沢さわやかバトル)

During summer vacation, Haruhi gets a part-time job in a pension at Karuizawa. She feels guilty at first for not saying anything to the rest of the host club, until they drop in unannounced. That's due to Tamaki freaking out because he can't get a hold of Haruhi, and his calling in the Host Club to locate her. When the club arrives, a "refreshment" contest erupts when they realize there is only one remaining room at the pension and they all want to stay. The owner of the pension, Misuzu Sonoda, agrees to have this contest held. Tamaki struggles to be refreshing, while Hikaru and Kaoru convinces Misuzu that they deserve to win. Tamaki plays the piano in order to gain the upper hand. However, Hikaru and Kaoru win by using their brotherly love act. When Haruhi's middle school friend visits, things take a turn for the worst. 
16 "Operation Haruhi and Hikaru’s First Date!"
"Haruhi to Hikaru Hatsu Dēto Daisakusen" (ハルヒと光 初デート大作戦)

Hikaru gets jealous of Haruhi's middle school friend, Arai, while at the pension, after learning that Haruhi's classmate used to have a large crush on Haruhi. Kaoru wants to make up for Hikaru's actions, so he offers to take Haruhi out on a date. Kaoru pretends to be sick for the date, and instead sets up the date for Hikaru and Haruhi to try to get Hikaru to think of other people which Tamaki does not take too well. During their date, Hikaru runs off somewhere due to an unpleasent meeting with Arai, and a thunderstorm occurs. Worried about Haruhi, Tamaki calls Hikaru, accuses his selfishness, and tells him that Haruhi is afraid of thunder, letting everyone know Haruhi's weakness. Acknowledging Tamaki's words, Hikaru sets off to find her. In the end, Hikaru apologizes to Haruhi, who is hiding under a table in a church, during the thunderstorm and comforts her while she is crying. He apologizes for the way he acted, and Haruhi thanks him. At the end, Kaoru remarks to Kyoya that Hikaru will not notice his feelings for a while, noting how absentminded he is. 
17 "Kyoya’s Reluctant Day Out!"
"Kyōya no Fuhon'i na Kyūjitsu" (鏡夜の不本意な休日)

Kyoya, half-asleep, is dragged into a department store and abandoned by the Host Club, who aim to study the life of the commoners, and therefore understand more about Haruhi. When he wakes up, Kyoya notices that he is without a wallet and a cell phone, and that he was in need for something to eat. Kyoya luckily, ends up meeting Haruhi there, alone, and they find it interesting how each other views their lives. Kyoya reveals that he is the youngest of three sons of the Otori family. As the third son of the family, he finds it difficult to support his older brothers while meeting his father's expectations. While wandering around the department store, Kyoya encounters a seller who is advertising fake pottery. A woman is about to purchase something from him, and Kyoya steps in. He has the seller arrested for selling fake items. Later on, Kyoya realizes from Haruhi how he and Tamaki are alike in their dedication into helping people. 
18 "Chika’s “Down with Honey” Declaration!"
"Chika-kun no Hanī Datō Sengen" (チカ君のハニー打倒宣言)

Honey has a younger brother, named Yasuchika "Chika" Haninozuka. Chika is known to hold a grudge against Honey, as the two begin having several martial arts duels, however Honey ends up being the champion. It is explained how Honey quit the karate club to join the host club. It turns out the reason for Chika's grudge is that Honey eats too many cakes and yet never gains weight. In a flashback, it is revealed that Chika witnessed Honey devour three cakes for supper. This causes Chika to believe that Honey is not human. Honey apologizes to Chika for causing so much pain and suffering to him. To settle the score, Honey and Chika have their last duel, and the stakes are that if Honey loses he may not eat cake. Mori thinks Honey will throw the fight, and is devastated when Honey beats his brother soundly. In the end Haruhi remarks how if Honey loves cake more than his brother, he's really a terrible person. However, Honey does not care, as long as he can have the things he loves. 
19 "Lobelia Girls’ Academy Strikes Back!"

The Zuka club finally manage to rope Haruhi by kidnapping her into their academy. The host club boys and Ranka attempt to save Haruhi from Benibara, who tries to steal Haruhi's first kiss as part of a school play. Kyoya reminds Ranka and the rest of the host club that Haruhi's real first kiss was when she accidentally kissed Kanako at the school dance. The episode ends with the Zuka club chasing Haruhi around the stage, attempting to steal her second kiss. 
20 "The Door the Twins Opened!"
"Futago ga Aketa Tobira" (双子があけた扉)

A prequel that tells the story of how Hikaru and Kaoru were convinced to help form the host club. They had a maid in their past who led them to believe that no one would ever be able to tell them apart. They first met Tamaki in middle school, who asks them to join the host club. Hikaru and Kaoru say they would join as long as Tamaki figures out which twin is which, giving him a month to do so. However, the twins realize how annoying Tamaki was in telling them apart, and they told him to leave them alone. They played a cruel trick on a girl that had a crush on them, and Tamaki finally figures out which twin is which. Tamaki helps Hikaru and Kaoru realize that they want to be told apart, and that there will be someone who will tell them apart. The first host club meeting was one month later after the opening school ceremony, and the twins make their way in for the first time. 
21 "Until the Day it Becomes a Pumpkin!"

Haruhi's homeroom class, has a Halloween event, called "The Halloween Test-of-Courage Tournament", in which groups do their best to scare each other. The loser would get their face on the front page of the school newsletter, captioned "The Captain of All Cowards". The class president representative, Kazukiyo Soga, isn't so keen on this idea, as he reveals to Haruhi that he has nyctophobia, the fear of the darkness. He enlists Haruhi to help him, however Hikaru and Kaoru join the group as well. Soga then also reveals that he is in love with Momoka Kurakano, the class vice-president representative. Nekozawa and the rest of the host club decide to scare Haruhi, Hikaru, Kaoru, and Soga. Haruhi and Hikaru land in an animal trap, while Kaoru and Soga are locked in a room. Kaoru contemplates to Soga about "the carriage being turned back to a pumpkin". Haruhi and Hikaru manage to break free of the trap, and they find Kaoru and Soga in the locked room. In the end, Nekozawa uses his Belzenef doll as a silhouette to scare the homeroom class, thus labeling them all "The Captains of all Cowards". 
22 "Mori-senpai Has an Apprentice Candidate!"
"Mori-senpai ni Deshiiri Shigan" (モリ先輩に弟子入り志願)

When the son of a gangster, Ritsu Kasanoda, seeks Mori for tips on how to change his scary image and gain friends, the host club immediately jumps at the opportunity to change his image, making many humorous results of their efforts. The members of the host club also frequently call him Casanova and bossa nova, as plays on his name. When he starts hanging out with Haruhi while the rest of the club continue planning on how to change Kasanoda's image, he notes on how attractive she is, leading to confusion about his own sexuality, since he believes her to be a boy. However, Kasanoda ends up discovering Haruhi's secret when he walks in on Haruhi changing. 
23 "Tamaki’s Unwitting Depression!"
"Tamaki no Mujikaku na Yūutsu" (環の無自覚な憂鬱)

After Kasanoda walks in on Haruhi changing, he ends up falling in love with her. He later joins the host club, but as a customer. When he insists on Haruhi as his host, the other hosts get nervous and the clients get excited. Kasanoda tries his best to tell Haruhi how he feels about her, but cannot because of his shyness, and because he would be seen as gay, since everyone else believes that Haruhi is a boy. Tamaki starts to realize his feelings for Haruhi, and just as Kasanoda plucks up the courage to tell Haruhi, she remains oblivious, and cuts him off and says that they would be great friends, causing everyone to believe that she rejected him. This depresses Kasanoda, but causes the rest of the host club, hosts and clients alike, to be moved so much that they all want to become friends with Kasanoda. Meanwhile, Tamaki still is unsure just how he feels about Haruhi, and Haruhi herself is completely oblivious to everything. 
24 "And so Kyoya Met Him!"
"Soshite Kyōya wa Deatta" (そして鏡夜は出会った)

Kyoya recalls when he first met Tamaki two years ago, and how he only became friends with him due to Tamaki being the heir to the Suou family businesses. Kyoya explains his role in the Otori family business, being the third and youngest son of Yoshio Otori, his father. Tamaki first meets Kyoya as the class president representative of their homeroom. Kyoya initially puts up with Tamaki's odd requests, travelling all over Japan, but eventually he snapped. From that point on, however, Kyoya could be his real self in front of Tamaki and they became true friends. 
25 "The Host Club Declares Dissolution!"
"Hosuto-bu Kaisan Sengen" (ホスト部解散宣言)

The host club participates in the annual school festival. Tamaki's father, Yuzuru Suou, and grandmother, Shizue Suou, turn up there. However, the arrival of Éclair, a woman who Tamaki was told to take care of by Shizue, brings an unforeseen turn of events. Tamaki ends up engaged to Éclair and the host club is declared dissolved, as of the end of the festival, at which point, Tamaki will leave Japan with Éclair. Haruhi also learns of Tamaki's history, and his entrance into the Suou family. 
26 "This is Our Ouran Fair!"
"Kore ga Oretachi no Ōran-sai" (これが俺たちの桜蘭祭)

Kyoya tells Haruhi that her debt has been repaid, therefore she is able to leave the host club, but she declines the offer, wanting to help out the host club. The host club must race against time to keep Tamaki in Japan as he is about to depart for France. They try to catch up using Kyoya's limo, but are angered to find out Grand Tonerre will not let them go after Tamaki and Éclair. Haruhi, Hikaru, and Kaoru end up riding a horse-carriage to catch up with Tamaki. Kyoya, Honey, and Mori stay behind to battle with the Otori family police. Hikaru gets hurt in a crash and Kaoru stays behind to care for him. Haruhi rides the carriage to go after Tamaki. Haruhi convinces Tamaki to return to the host club and reaches for her hand, but Tamaki is stopped by Éclair. Haruhi falls from the carriage and off a bridge. Éclair lets go of Tamaki's arm and Tamaki thanks her before jumping from the car to save Haruhi. In the end, Haruhi, dances with all the members of the host club, while Yuzuru and Yoshio consider no longer being business rivals, following their own sons' example. Then they go into an argument about whose son will marry Haruhi.
