He was President of the University of Utah from August 2004[2] to May 2011.[3]
Biography
Michael K. Young received a Bachelor of Arts from Brigham Young University in 1973 and a Juris doctor from Harvard Law School in 1976, after which he clerked for then Associate Justice William Rehnquist.[4]
His previous academic postings include Fuyo Professor of Japanese Law and Legal Institutions and Director of the Center for Japanese Legal Studies at Columbia University and Dean and Lobingier Professor of Comparative Law and Jurisprudence at the George Washington University School of Law.[2] He held several posts in the George H.W. Bush administration and served as chairman of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom during 2003 and 2004.[2][5]
On April 25, 2011, he was announced as the next President of the University of Washington, succeeding Mark Emmert.[6][7]
He served as president of the New York Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1985-1989.[8] He married fellow BYU alumnus Suzan Stewart. She is a registered nurse. They are the parents of three children. They divorced in 2010.
He remarried on June 3rd, 2011 to Marti Denkers (Young), from Salt Lake City, who also went through a divorce in the past year. [9]
