Barjora ( _bn. বড়জোড়া) is a census town in Bankura District in the state of West Bengal, India.

Geography

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [GR|India] Barjora had a population of 11,509. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Barjora has an average literacy rate of 73%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; 57% of the literates are males and 43% are females. 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Politics

Susmita Biswas of CPI (M) won the Barjora assembly seat in 2006, 2001, and 1996 defeating Shampa Daripa of AITC, Sudhansu Sekhar Tewari of AITC and Tapasi Banerjee of INC respectively. Jayasree Mitra of CPI (M) won the seat in 1991 and 1987, defeating Sabyasachi Roy and Sudhansu Sekhar Tewari of INC respectively. In 1982, Lal Behari Bhattacharya of CPI (M) defeated Sudhansu Sekhar Tewari of INC. In 1977, Aswini Kumar Raj of CPI (M) defeated Sudhansu Sekhar Tewari of INC.
