Black Sea oil terminal inSamsun andMediterranean oil terminal inCeyhan inTurkey . The aim of this project is to provide an alternative route forRussia n andKazakhstan ’s oil and to ease the traffic burden of theBosporus and theDardanelles .History
The project started in 2003, when
Italy ’s energy companyEni studied possible oil transport routes from the North Caspian area. In 2004, based on the pre-feasibility study, the Samsun-Ceyhan route was selected. Another partner of the project, Turkish companyÇalık Enerji , carried out technical and commercial studies, and filed for the construction licence on31 March 2004.On
26 September 2005 , Eni and Çalık Enerji signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the joint cooperation on the project. A feasibility study of the pipeline was completed in March 2006. The construction license was granted in June 2006.cite web | publisher=International Energy Agency |url= http://www.iea.org/Textbase/work/2006/energy_security/Cavanna.pdf| title = Trans Anatolian Pipeline Project | format = PDF| month = October | year = 2006 | accessdate=2007-04-26] The Front End Engineering Design Phase (FEED) was completed at the beginning of 2007, and the ground breaking ceremony, attended by the Italian Minister for Economic DevelopmentPierluigi Bersani and the Turkish Minister for Energy & Natural ResourcesHilmi Güler , was held in Ceyhan on24 April 2007.cite web | publisher= Eni |url= http://www.eni.it/eni/internal.do?menu=true&RID=@2yQCv%7C0?xoidcmWopk&catId=-1073763205&cntTypeId=1008&portalId=0&lang=en | title = Eni: ground breaking ceremony for Trans Anatolian Pipeline Project.
