Squadron Commander Edwin Harris Dunning, DSC (
17 July 1892 -7 August 1917 ), of the United Kingdom'sRoyal Navy , was the first pilot to land an aircraft on a moving ship.The second son of Sir Edwin Harris Dunning of Jacques Hall,

Sopwith Pup on HMS "Furious" inScapa Flow ,Orkney on2 August 1917 . He was killed five days later, during his second landing attempt of the day, when a tire burst, throwing his plane overboard. Knocked unconscious, hedrowned in the cockpit.
