Fairfield Country Day School (FCDS) Fairfield Country Day School is an independent school for boys, grades kindergarten through 9. Founded in 1936, Fairfield Country Day provides an educational community dedicated to the personal growth and intellectual development of boys.
Small class sizes allow teachers to gain an in depth knowledge of each boys’ learning style. That knowledge enables teachers to foster the enjoyment of learning and achieve academic success. The curriculum is designed for the mastery of core subjects while providing a range of broader offerings.
Fairfield Country Day School prepares students to succeed in the most demanding secondary
Curriculum
Humanities
From Kindergarten through fourth grade, students study basic Spanish concepts. In grades five and six, students begin a basic study of Latin along with a continuation of Spanish. In seventh grade, students choose between French, Spanish, and Latin, whichever language a student chooses, he is expected to continue that language until he graduates.
History and social science classes begin in grade four. In eighth grade students study Physical Science, and in Grade 9, Biology. History studies begin with an approach to Mesopotamia and conclude with Vietnam and present-day affairs. English, in addition, is a main part of a student's work load, as typically a class reads three books a year. From grades six to nine there is usually a trimester devoted to grammar. The Math curriculum includes Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Honors Geometry.
Arts
Music and Art class are required aspects of a boy's day. Fairfield Country Day has required art and music classes in all grades. All boys in grades K-6 are required to participate in a choral group. It is suggested, but not required, for boys in grades 7-9 to join a choral group.
Select students' art work is displayed all year. Upper-school students can join a string ensemble, a cappella group, or a
bell choir . During the fall upper-school students can take part in a One-Act Play. During the late winter and early spring every year the 7-9 grade students can participate in a full-length Broadway musical. Recent productions have included South Pacific, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Beauty and the Beast. The Arts are a large part of school life for FCDS boys.ports
Students at FCDS all participate in either team or intramural sports. K-3 students partake in sports during the regular day. Beginning in the Fourth Grade students all take part in sports which occur at the end of the day.
