Stadium of Fire

The Stadium of Fire is an annual event held in the Brigham Young University's LaVell Edwards Stadium on the 4th of July. It is one of the main events for the Provo Freedom Festival.

It has hosted several famous performers over the years, including, the Beach Boys, Mandy Moore, Taylor Hicks, [ [http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,635212533,00.html New 'Idol' to perform in Provo] ] The Osmonds, Lonestar, Lucy Lawless, Toby Keith, Lee Ann Womack, [http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view/0,1249,640191708,00.html Stadium of Fire is blast with Idol star and stripes] ] Corbin Bleu, Brooks and Dunn, and Miley Cyrus.

Each year the show has around 50,000 people in attendance. In addition, one can expect something new and exciting from each show. For example, in 2005 the show decided to break a world's record (already held by itself) by blowing up over "1 million and more" firecrackers at once.

The Stadium of Fire was originally the creation of Alan Osmond, brother of Donny and one of The Osmonds. It began in 1980 and has had many famous headliners since its inception, the Osmonds are omitted from many years on this list because they are regular performers and sometimes reports of the event are vague as to when they had participated.

Because this is the "fireworks" portion of the July 4th celebration for Provo City and surrounding communities, as many 100,000 more people surround the stadium to watch the fireworks portion of the show. Many can hear some of the performers if they are close enough to the stadium, but most are there just to see the fantastic fireworks displays that are launched from outside of the stadium. Anyone planning to travel through Utah valley after the fireworks needs to understand that all major and minor streets and highways, including I-15, will be completely full of people trying to get home after the fireworks. Normally, it will take from one and a half hours to three hours before all roads and highways return to normal traffic flows. (This includes Provo, Orem, Lindon, Pleasant Grove, American Fork, and Lehi. Roadways going south will have lighter traffic as they are not also involved in traffic returning to the Salt Lake Valley.)

The July 2008 headliner was teen pop-sensation Miley Cyrus along with the sci-fi music trio Blue Man Group. The show was hosted by radio personality Glenn Beck.
