Kunchacko Boban (also known as Chackochan) is a Malayalam film actor. He is the grandson of famous film producer Kunchacko of erstwhile Udaya Studios Alappuzha. He started his career through a superhit Malayalam film "Aniyathipravu" in 1997. His role in the film Harikrishnans, which starred both Mammootty, Mohanlal, made him one of the top actors of Malayalam industry. He married Priya Ann Samuel on 2 April, 2005. He has acted in about 30 films in Malayalam. Although, for almost the past two years, he hasn't appeared in any films as the leading or supporting character. He will be making a guest appearance in a dance sequel for the star studded movie . Also a new film of Kunchako directed by Shafi has been announced.

Career

He became an instant teenage heartthrob after his first film, the Fazil directed Aniyathi Pravu (1997), was released. He was a favourite among Kerala's college-campus scene after starring in numerous love stories, but once he finished college, he decided to focus on character roles with more scope. He hails from the Maliampurakal family, who are credited with owning the first film studio in Kerala - "Udaya". His favourite dish is Karimeen (fried fish).Fact|date=February 2007

His Niram (co-starring Shalini) and Swapnakoodu directed by Kamal was a rage among teenagers and college students.

Comeback

Boban Kunchacko, the romantic hero of the nineties is planning a comeback to Mollywood, with the new film directed by hit maker Shafi, from the first week of August. He has been keeping away from the Mollywood tinsel town and concentrating on his real estate and property development business for the last couple of years, in which he has been highly successful. Benny P Nayarambalam is busy giving the final touches to the script of the movie which will also feature young stars Prithviraj, Jayasuriya, Roma. He has recently shot for a song and dance sequence for the movie ‘Twenty Twenty' which also features Nayantara, Prithviraj, Indrajith and Manikuttan.

Produced by A B S combines, this yet to be titled movie will be a hilarious love story. The movie will be completed in a single schedule of shoot in and around Ernakulam. Kunchacko Boban was last seen in Mollywood in the film 'Kilukkam Kilikilukkam', a sequel to nineties super hit movie ‘Kilukkam’, which was released on March 2006. Even after this movie becoming a reasonable profit maker, the actor cryptically opted to revive his family business than to focus on more films.

Prithviraj, Kunchakko Boban and Jayasuriya are teaming up again after their last super hit Swapnakoodu, which came up five years ago.

Kunchacko Boban is also planning to revive their ancestral production house 'Udhaya' which was once, the biggest banner in Malayalam. The actor has also started working for their first project, with Mammootty and cricketer Sreeshanth in important roles. The movie will be directed by debutante Aashiq Abu and will materialize by the final months of this year. The film will have Mammootty as the protagonist, playing the role of a police officer, the 26th one in his career. But the film will be more a humorous satire which is based on the relationship between a cricket loving police officer and a star cricket player.

Refusal to Tamil

When Malluwood actors and actresses are making a beeline to Kollywood, Kunchako Boban is one exception to the rule.

The actor recently made a startling revelation. 'I did receive plenty of offers from Tamil. People like Manirathnam and Agathiyan offered me films. But I had refused them. Unlike other heroes, my first priority is my health and personal life.'

'I don't believe in sacrificing my health or my personal life for the sake of money or popularity. I want to spend more time with my family. I want to enjoy life. Moreover my desire is to concentrate in Malayalam movies now'.
