Wando High School is a high school in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Home of the Wando Warriors, the school was built anew in 2004. Located now on 1000 Warrior Way off Highway 17. Wando offers over 250 classes, including Advanced placement, Dual Credit, Honors, College Preparatory, and Applied Technology courses. The addition of a "Freshman Academy" improves the smooth transition of the change from middle school, to high school. After freshman year, the students are asked to pick one of four schools of study to major in.

The New Wando

Sited on convert|110|acre|km2, this convert|433121|sqft|m2|sing=on building shows notable statistics. The grounds include a convert|4800|sqft|m2|sing=on field house complete with a convert|1598|sqft|m2|sing=on press box. Student parking spaces total 1,179, with 33 visitor spaces, 368 staff spaces and room for 20 buses. The layout of this high school was based on the similar layout of West Ashley High School, their cross town rival.

Inside the school, there is a convert|906|sqft|m2|sing=on performing arts center; the gym has over convert|2560|sqft|m2; and the specialized food court has convert|780|sqft|m2. 2,780 tons of steel, 12,000 tons of concrete, over 800,000 bricks and concrete blocks and a total of 76 individual HVAC units were used in construction. The new Wando High School has two multi-purpose fields along with separate fields for band practice, soccer, football, baseball and softball. There are also six tennis courts, a track area, and a shot put and javelin area.

Wando Sports

Wando is best known for their swimming, soccer, tennis, and baseball teams. The girls tennis team won the State Championship in 2005 [ [http://www.schsl.org/2004%20brackets/gte%20aaaa.htm Aaaa Girls State Tennis ] ] , 2006 [http://www.schsl.org/2005%20brackets/gte%20aaaa.htm] , and 2007 [ [http://www.schsl.org/2006%20Brackets/gte%20aaaa.htm Aaaa Girls State Tennis ] ] . The football team under Coach Bob Hayes excelled in 2004 to reach the Lower State Championship [ [http://www.schsl.org/2004%20brackets/fb%20aaaa%20I.htm Class Aaaa Football ] ] , a first for the team. The Wando Baseball team also had its best year in 2004 as it reached the Lower State Championship [ [http://www.schsl.org/2003%20Brackets/be%20aaaa.htm 2004 BASEBALL ] ] . The lacrosse team also made it to the finals of the SC lacrosse championship game in their first year of competition. In the early 2000s, Wando students were credited with creating Caesar Tomgustus, an outdoor disc sport similar to the popular children's game Silent ball. Though not sanctioned by the [http://www.schsl.org SCHSL] , Caesar Tomgustus remains popular among local youths.

Wando Band and Chorus

The Wando Marching band has won the SCBDA state 5-A championship for 3 years in a row with their 2005, 2006, and 2007 shows respectively entitled Equilibrium, Watermark, and Promethean Dreams. In 2005 the band had an undefeated season, achieving first place in every competition attended. The Wando choirs were led by Marilyn Austin. Currently there are 6 choirs, 3 of which count for honors credits. Currently the directors are Vernon Huff and Eric Wilkinson. Last Year the Wando Choir was ranked 2nd in the State.Fact|date=December 2007 Rodger Wiley is a former director.

Wando's school newspaper, viewable online at their website, has won many awards including for the second consecutive year the Best in Show Award for newspapers over 17 pages at the National Scholastic Press Association Convention, the All-American Award from the NSPA for the sixth consecutive year, the Silver Crown Award for the second consecutive year from Columbia Scholastic Press Association, and the Gold Medalist award from CSPA.It also placed in the top 35 newspapers in the nation. Also receiving the Best in State of South Carolina Award from the Southern Interscholastic Press Association for the sixth consecutive year, an All-Southern ranking, the SIPA’s highest ranking, for the 16th consecutive year, and Best in State from SCSPA for five of the last seven years. Wando has a ratio of 22 students to 1 teacher, having over 280 staff members. There is also an estimated number of 3,000 students (more or less) that will be attending Wando this school year (2008-2009)

Wando also boasts of its over 70 different unique clubs, ranging from The National Honors Society, to The Rock Climbing Club, and back to the Dance Dance Revolution club. There's something for everyone at Wando.
