Belgacom TV was the first
digital TV offered inBelgium . It was launched during summer 2005 byBelgacom .A few months before the launch of Belgacom TV, the leading Belgian telecom operator took the whole market by surprise when it acquired the broadcasting rights for the
Jupiler League , the Belgian first division football.Technically, Belgacom TV is distributed via a telephone line with an
xDSL solution.In practice, Belgacom TV is the distribution platform on which the various elements that make up the telecom operator's offer are deployed. i.e., the Classic+ package of 70 channels, video on demand, thematic channel packages, and “11”, the channel that broadcasts all Belgian first-division matches.
Unlike traditional cable distributors, the distribution of Belgacom TV is not limited to a certain municipality or province. The Belgian operator’s TV offer will eventually cover the whole Belgian territory.
At the end of December 2007, there were 300.000 Belgacom TV subscribers.
Belgian Soccer
On 9 May 2005, the Professional Football League awarded the Belgacom Group the broadcasting rights to Belgian football for the next three years. 11, the Belgacom TV football channel airs all the Belgian football.
