Early life
Smith grew up in suburban Michigan. She went to East Hills Middle School and Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. After graduating from Lahser High School in 1992, she studied to become a Hair dresser and Make Up artist, before being discovered and relocating to New York City to launch a modeling career.[1]
Career
She has been featured in the Victoria’s Secret catalogue, and has been seen nationally in television commercials for Noxzema, Oil of Olay, Dannon, and a well-known and recognized spot for Dentyne Ice. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY.[2]
In August 2005, Smith was introduced as a contract player on the daytime soap opera Guiding Light. She plays Ava Peralta, a newcomer to the fictional town of Springfield.[3] She left the role in July 2008 after the birth of her son, Jake. In 2010, she had a supporting role in the film Salt, starring Angelina Jolie, and played the female lead role alongside Robert Englund in the Independent film Inkubus.[4]
Personal life
Michelle became a mother to a son named Jake (8 lbs and 2 oz.) on Tuesday July 8, 2008.[5]
Smith describes herself as an "outdoors” type who loves camping, fishing, and jogging. She has a love of dogs; she is a proud owner of several dogs, and has worked with the Humane Society and the Humane Society Disaster Relief Fund.
Smith's father committed suicide in 2003; in 2005 and 2006, Smith has become an advocate for suicide prevention, and has worked with several prevention groups.
