WQNC-FM "Q92.7, The People's Station" is an urban adult contemporary and talk radio station in Charlotte, North Carolina that is owned and operated by Radio One Inc. It is the home of the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show.

Today WQNC is in competition against longer standing Urban AC rival WBAV "V-101.9" and Urban/Hip hop station WPEG "Power 98."

History

The station signed on as WCCJ in 1995 with a commercial-free free-form rock format. Eventually the bills had to be paid, so the station changed to smooth jazz and later tried rhythmic oldies.

The station used to be hip hop/R&B station WCHH "Hot 92.7". It did not do well in the ratings, so it was flipped to Urban AC under its current name in 2003.

On May 15, 2008, WQNC added two talk shows: the New York City based "Keeping It Real with Rev. Al Sharpton," and the "Warren Ballantine Show." [Mark Washburn, "Sharpton to Headline New Format at Radio Station," "The Charlotte Observer", May. 14, 2008.] .
