"Too Close" is the name of a song performed by R&B vocal group Next. It was released in 1998 as the second single from their album "Rated Next". The song was written by producers Kay Gee and Darren Lighty along with Next group members. It was inspired by Kurtis Blow's "Christmas Rappin'". The song is about how the singer gets an erection when he dances too close to his girl.

The song became Next's first top ten single and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in April. It spent five non-consecutive weeks at the top of the chart and was ranked as the number-one single by "Billboard magazine" in its year-end survey. The video was directed by Bille Woodruff.

The song ranks at #24 on "Billboard's Greatest Songs of all time." [http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/specials/hot100/charts/top100-titles-30.shtml]

British boy band Blue had a UK number one hit with a cover version of the song in 2001. The Next version had only been a minor UK hit in 1998, peaking at number twenty four. Both versions made number 1 in New Zealand
