Paris Métro , at the interconnection of lines 6, 8 and 10 in the "XVe arrondissement ", near the "VIIe arrondissement ".The station combines under- and above-ground platforms. It is named after the Avenue de la Motte Picquet and the Boulevard de Grenelle.Toussaint-Guillaume Picquet de la Motte was aLouis XV andLouis XIV era Admiral of the French Royal Navy, noted for his involvement in French naval support for the Americans during theAmerican Revolutionary War , notably in theBattle of Grenada and theSiege of Savannah .The "quartier" of
Grenelle was constituted as a peripheral "commune" toParis during the second quarter of the XIXth century and finally incorporated into the city in 1860 by theBaron Haussman underNapoléon III .When it was first opened in 1906, above-ground platforms served the Étoile — Place d'Italie section of Line 5 (transferred to Line 6 in 1942). In 1913, underground platforms were constructed serving the new Line 8, which originally extended from Porte d'Auteuil to Opéra via La Motte-Picquet Grenelle. The section of Line 8 from Porte d'Auteuil to La Motte-Picquet Grenelle was later given to Line 10 in 1937 when Line 8 was extended to Balard and underground track for Line 10 was laid linking La Motte-Picquet Grenelle and Duroc.
Today La Motte-Picquet Grenelle is a major
Paris Metro interconnexion on theRive Gauche , and the most important West ofMontparnasse .
