Early career
Navas joined the Sevilla 'B' team in 2002 when he was just sixteen years old. He played six times for the 'B' team in 2002-2003, without scoring. Next season he made more of an impression on the club, once again in the 'B' team, but this time playing twenty-two games and scoring three. He looked a very promising player especially for his young age and at the end of the season he was promoted to the first team, and made five appearances as the season drew to a close.
enior career
In the 2004/05 season, Navas was once again placed in the 'B' team to gain more experience. However, he made just four appearances before the first team coach decided he had become too good for the 'B' side and would require his services in the first team. He was given twenty-three La Liga appearances that season and scored twice.
On 4 May, 2005 Navas' good performances were rewarded with a new contract that would see him at the club until 2010. Navas' performances were also recognised by the Spanish national team, as Navas was called up to play for the Spain-under-21s.
In the 2005/06 season, Navas once again impressed as he played in thirty-five games for the club, scoring two goals. He also played eleven games in the
UEFA Cup and made a major contribution to the team winning the competition in a 4-0 win overMiddlesbrough F.C. in the final.Personal
