James 'Jim' O'Brien (born September 28 1987 in Vale of Leven, Scotland) is a Scottish born Irish footballer who plays right midfield or forward. He currently plays for Motherwell after signing from Celtic.

Career

O'Brien was loaned from Celtic to Dunfermline Athletic during the 2006-07 season [citeweb|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/dunfermline_athletic/6237113.stm|title=Dunfermline take Celtic's O'Brien|accessdate=January 31|accessyear=2008] and made his senior footballing debut in their 3-2 Scottish Cup victory over Rangers on 7 January 2007. He had previously only played for Celtic's youth squad. He scored his debut senior goal in Dunfermline's 4-1 victory over Motherwell on May 7 2007. O'Brien joined Dundee United on loan on 31 January until May 2008. O'Brien represents the Republic of Ireland, and has played for the under-19 and under-21 teams.
