census-designated place ) in Erie County,New York , USA. Lakeview is in the Town of Hamburg.Geography
It is about convert|17|mi south of Buffalo along
Lake Erie .History
Early settlers were Ebenezer Ames, Jacob Schoellkopf and Ebenezer Walden, [cite web| url=http://www.buffalonian.com/history/industry/mayors/Walden.htm| title=Ebenezer Walden| work=The Buffalonian| year=2001| accessdate=2008-09-02| ] a prominent Buffalo attorney and mayor whose family built the Lake View Hotel in 1880 to serve the many traveling salesmen who arrived on the seven daily trains on the
Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway (later part ofNew York Central Railroad ) to sell their wares in the surrounding countryside. The salesmen (called "drummers") would rent a horse and buggy from the livery stable behind the six-room hotel to make their rounds.By 1890, two more railroads ran through Lake View - the
New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad (the Nickel Plate Road) and thePennsylvania Railroad [cite web| url=http://wnyrails.org/cities/lakeview.htm| title=Lake View, New York| work=Western New York Railroad Archive| accessdate=2008-09-02| ] which brought economic prosperity to the small community. During WWII, two young woman named Winifred Stadler and Rita Fierle produced a newsletter called the Lake View Local [cite web| url=http://seiz2day.com/lakeviewny/LVL/index.htm| title=Lake View Local| work=Lake View Times| accessdate=2008-09-02| ] which was sent to the town's men and women serving their country abroad.
In the late 1950s, the Lake View Community Association produced a cookbook called "The ABC's of Cooking" [cite web| url=http://seiz2day.com/lakeviewny/cookbook/abcsofcooking.htm| title=The ABC's of Cooking| date=2007| accessdate=2008-09-02| ] which contained many favorite tried and true recipes from the town's residents.
