- HMS Loch Fada (K390)
HMS "Loch Fada" (K390) was the lead ship of the Loch class of
frigate s of theRoyal Navy ,pennant number K390 and named afterLoch Fada inScotland .She was launched on 14 December 1943 at
Clydebank inScotland and commissioned in April 1944. She was attached to Captain Johnny Walker's 2nd Escort Group which was detailed to guard theWestern Approaches of theBritish Isles . She was involved in the sinking of theU-boat s "U-327" and "U-1018" usingdepth charge s on 27 February 1945 nearPenzance ,Cornwall .After the war, from 1946 onwards she was attached to the Londonderry Flotilla until she went for refitting at
Portsmouth in 1953. Thereafter she operated in thePersian Gulf and in 1955 tookArchbishop Makarios into exile fromCyprus to theSeychelles . After a period offishery protection during the firstCod War betweenGreat Britain andIceland she served in theFar East and was involved in theIndonesian Confrontation . She was used as a testbed in the development of Sea Wolfsurface to air missile s in 1969 and finally scrapped in 1970.
