Sarah's Legacy is a young adult book written by Canadian author Valerie Sherrard and published by Boardwalk Books.

Overview

Twelve-year-old Sarah Gilmore lives with her mom in a dreary rented apartment in Belleville, Ontario. The carpet is worn and the yellow rose-pattern wallpaper is cracked. The kitchen table wobbles and none of the furniture matches.

Sarah’s dad died before she was born, and her mom is struggling to make ends meet slaving six days a week as a waitress at Pete’s Diner. Still, Sarah always has enough to eat and a place to stay.

Then something remarkable happens. Sarah’s mom inherits her “nutty” great-aunt’s estate in Miramichi whose name is also Sarah., New Brunswick. Their eccentric new home is enormous. The house is packed to the gunnels with furniture and overrun by five cats, four dogs, an African grey parrot, and a skunk named Rosie. What interests Sarah the most, however, is her mom’s resurgent love life and the contents of a hidden hope chest mysteriously bequeathed to her… her mother starts her own job in the house, and is caught between the first love besides her husband, by the name of Stan, sarah gilmore finally finds her great aunt's diary, and finds out about her true life. sarah gilmore finds herself facing the truth about her great aunt's life, and is forced to deal with the ups and downs of her mother forming a relationship with "Stan".Sarah doesnt agree with this but in the end she finds out that she has to accept her mothers choices. she finds out that her great aunt is more than she has ever imagined.
