Tveit

Tveit is a former municipality in Vest-Agder county, Norway.

Tveit was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). It was (together with Oddernes and Randesund) merged with Kristiansand January 1, 1965.

Tveit hostes the city's airport Kjevik. It occupies the mouth of the river Tovdalselva (also known as Topdalselva) and was the birthplace of Norwegian-American aviator Bernt Balchen.

The population is approximately 2,831 (2004).

The name

The municipality (originally the parish) was named after the farm Tveit (Norse "Þveit"), since the first church was built there.
