Tveit is a former municipality in
Vest-Agder county, Norway.Tveit was established as a municipality January 1, 1838 (see
formannskapsdistrikt ). It was (together withOddernes andRandesund ) merged withKristiansand January 1, 1965.Tveit hostes the city's
airport Kjevik . It occupies the mouth of theriver Tovdalselva (also known asTopdalselva ) and was the birthplace ofNorwegian-American aviator Bernt Balchen .The population is approximately 2,831 (2004).
The name
The municipality (originally the parish) was named after the farm Tveit (
