- Greater Ranges
The Greater Ranges comprise the high
mountain range s ofAsia : theHimalayas , theKarakoram , theHindu Kush andHindu Raj , thePamir Mountains , theTien Shan , and various smaller mountain ranges ofChina , especially inTibet . All of these ranges have peaks over 6000 m (19,695 ft), and most have peaks over 7,000 m (22,966 ft).The term was popular amongst alpinists in the Victorian period and was used to distinguished the high peaks of Asia from the European
Alps .
