Greater Ranges

The Greater Ranges comprise the high mountain ranges of Asia: the Himalayas, the Karakoram, the Hindu Kush and Hindu Raj, the Pamir Mountains, the Tien Shan, and various smaller mountain ranges of China, especially in Tibet. All of these ranges have peaks over 6000 m (19,695 ft), and most have peaks over 7,000 m (22,966 ft).

The term was popular amongst alpinists in the Victorian period and was used to distinguished the high peaks of Asia from the European Alps.
