Panzi Hospital

Panzi Hospital

Panzi Hospital was founded in 1992 in Bukavu, the capital of the Sud-Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It specializes in handling victims of violence, the large majority having been sexually abused females. The rapists use this severe sexual abuse as a weapon of war, causing destruction to communities.

The hospital was initially built for 120 beds but the total number of beds is now 324. On average, Panzi admits 410 patients per month.
