History

In 1947, Lon and Annie Loveless bought a small farmhouse on Highway 100 in the Pasquo community near the planned terminus of the Natchez Trace Parkway. They had been in the restaurant business in neighboring Hickman County for many years. Lon retired as sheriff of Hickman County and they decided to open a small motel for retirement. They built several small cabins around the farmhouse in which they lived. They had no intentions of going back into the restaurant business. One morning Miss Annie was cooking breakfast for herself and Mr. Lon when a guest came in to check out.He aked where he could get something before he continued on his way and Miss Annie said, "Come on in the kitchen and I'll fix you something". Very quickly the news got out that Miss Annie was cooking again and they were right back in the restaurant business. It wasn't long before they had tables in every room of the house except their bedroom. In 1959, the Maynard family bought the cafe from the Loveless family, but maintained the traditions of southern cooking along with the fresh, made-from-scratch biscuit recipe. The cafe again changed hands in the early 1970s, passing to Donna and George McCabe, who began the cafe's first mail-order catalog. The catalog grew in popularity to the extent that it took over the motel, which closed in 1985. In 2003, Nashville-based film industry caterers TomKats, Inc. purchased The Loveless Motel and Cafe.

Media appearances

Carol Fay Ellison, locally known as "the biscuit lady," began her career at the Loveless Cafe as a dishwasher while still in high school. She is responsible for safeguarding the restaurant's biscuit recipe. Ellison has demonstrated Southern cooking on television programs such as "Late Night with Conan O'Brien", "Martha", NBC's "Today Show", and "Throwdown! with Bobby Flay".
