Matt Granland

Matt Granland

Matthew "Matt" Granland (born 1978 in Sydney, New South Wales) is a Melbourne-based radio journalist who specializes in sport. He is also involved in the radio broadcasting of games in the Australian Football League.

Early career

Granland graduated from the full-time presenters course at the Australian Film Television and Radio School at North Ryde, Sydney in August 1996. Following this, he worked at 2LF (Young, New South Wales), followed by 3TR Traralgon in the heart of Gippsland where he read news and was a music presenter.

His foray into broadcasting football started with Gippsland FM, Morwell where called the Mid Gippsland Football League matches on his days off.

Move to commercial sports radio

In 2000 Matt moved out of music and general radio presentation when he was appointed Sports Journalist at K-Rock, Geelong. The station broadcast two games of AFL football each week and Matt started as the boundary rider and producer for all K-Rock's football activities. In his second year he graduated to calling the football and continued as their football producer.

Move to 3AW

Later that year Granland moved to Australia's highest rating radio station, 3AW Melbourne where he worked as a news journalist. He was also part of Rex Hunt's Football Calling Team, broadcasting games and providing comments from the boundary. He also called east coast games for 6PR with the legendary Smoky Dawson.

1116 SEN Melbourne

Early in 2007 he joined 1116SEN, Melbourne's 24/7 Sports Radio Station, primarily to broadcast Football with Anthony Hudson, David Schwarz, Dermott Brereton, Tim Watson, Billy Brownless and Kevin Bartlett.
