SEN 1116 (callsign 3AK), the acronym standing for Sports Entertainment Network, is a commercial AM radio station based in Melbourne, Australia, operating on 1116 kHz. It is currently owned and operated by Pacific Star Network Limited.

History

SEN began in late January 2004, leasing the 3AK frequency from Pacific Star. While initially, ratings were steadily rising, the station's financial position took a turn for the worst in early 2005, with several employees, including Dermott Brereton, Mark Doran, and Robert Shaw not being paid. This eventually led to Brereton walking out on the station.

Expansion into Adelaide

These financial problems also affected their expansion attempts into Adelaide, having leased the 1323 kHz frequency from the Australian Radio Network (ARN). ARN closed their classic hits station 5DN in December 2004 to make way for SEN 1323, which started the following month.

SEN's financial difficulties eventually saw control of the Adelaide lease revert to ARN in mid-2005 (who would eventually start Cruise 1323 on the 5DN callsign and frequency).

Purchase from administrators

On 2005-06-06, Pacific Star announced the purchase of the Melbourne business of SEN from its administrators. [Pacific Star Network Limited (2005-06-06).
