- Flag of Kentucky

flag ofKentucky consists of the Commonwealth's seal on a navy blue field, surrounded by the words "Commonwealth of Kentucky" above and sprigs ofgoldenrod , the state flower, below. Theflag was designed by Jesse Cox, an art teacher inFrankfort, Kentucky . The flag was adopted by theKentucky General Assembly onMarch 26 ,1918 [cite book |title="Encyclopedia of Kentucky" |publisher=Somerset Publishers |location=New York, New York |year=1987 |isbn=0403099811] and finalized in its present form in 1928.The seal depicts two friends embracing. Daniel Boone , who was largely responsible for the exploration of Kentucky, and the man in the suit on the right isHenry Clay , Kentucky's most famous statesman. However, the official explanation is that the men represent all frontiersmen and statesmen, rather than any specific persons.
