Houston Street is a local station on the IRT Broadway–Seventh Avenue Line of the New York City Subway. There is no crossover or crossunder, although evidence of a sealed-up crossunder is present at the north end. The local tracks are at a slightly higher level than the express tracks; it is believed that this was to aid deceleration and acceleration of local trains entering and leaving the station.

The station was renovated in 1994 by in-house contract. The 1994 artwork is entitled "Platform Diving" by Deborah Brown; it interprets the question "What kind of subway would sea creatures use?"
