142nd Street Junction

142nd Street Junction

The 142nd Street Junction is an intersection on the New York subway system interlocking where IRT lines 2 and 3 join at grade. Before the junction (Northbound), there is a double crossover. Then, two tracks turnoff (both at grade), and that is where the IRT 2 line connects to the White Plains Road line. The IRT 3 line continues to the 5-car only 145th Street Station. Because this Junction is at grade, the Lenox Yard Tower must control the signals so that downtown 2 trains do not swipe Uptown 3 trains. There has not been an accident with this junction, so we can assume that the tower covers the junction successfully.Fact|date=July 2008
