Descriptions of various barangays

Labangon

Labangon used to be a part of San Nicolas. Barangay Labangon is named as such because, just like San Nicolas, it is bounded by two rivers, one to the north and one to the south. The southern river is called "Kalunasan" (A Place to Drown in), and the northern river is called the "Pahina" or Guadalupe River. In ages past, the only way to go into the heart of Labangon was to cross either these two rivers. In Cebuano, to cross is "labang". Hence, "Labangon" or "to cross into".

In the past, Labangon was well known for its "tuba" or coconut wine. According to local folk tales, people from the South such as those from Barangay Mambaling, will have to cross the Kalunasan River in order to drown in Tuba in Labangon, hence called, Kalunasan River or To Drown in, and Labangon was the reason why they drowned.
