Kulcha Connection is a Canadian reggae group from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The members are Rebel & Face-T.

Biography

Kulcha Connection's first album is called "Plus Haut" which was released in 2003. Some of the songs include "She-Boom" (French remix), "My Lady" and "On Passe Toujours A Travers". Their second album is called "Monte Le Son" and it was released in 2006. The second album includes the songs "Dancehall Night" and "Pas D'Ici".They were nominated for A Canadian Juno Award in 2003 for the song "She-Boom" (English version), A Canadian Juno Award in 2007 for reggae recording of the year, A Canadian Urban Music Award in 2004 for best-francophone (French) album, A Felix Award at The L'ADISQ Gala and won the award for the best reggae group in 2005 & 2006 at The Montreal Urban Music Awards. They also won first place at The Francouvertes in 2002, The Socan Prize for Best-Song & Best Live-Performance, The Francofolies Prize and The L’OFQJ Prize for their developing career in France. Kulcha Connection demonstrates their social commitment in many of the duo’s songs, which are A blend of tolerance and protest while other songs are based on topics ranging from world issues to the musicians daily lives.

Rebel

Hantz Lalanne

Rebel's real name is Hantz Lalanne. He was born on February 4, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Rebel was born to Haitian-Immigrated parents. At the age of 15, Rebel formed an urban dance group called “Weelmil Crew” which he helped develop the choreography. From 1992 to 1996 the group did various shows in schools and won several amateur contests. Rebel has been singing since his youth, so in 1997 he associated himself with two aspiring rappers to form the hip hop group “Final Impact”. The group did more than 100 live concerts across Quebec. In 1998, the group decided to become actors, and signed to do A documentary for “Radio Canada” called “Seul Dans Mon Putain D’Univers”. After A year of working, Rebel and his group partner Stinger quit the group Final Impact in 1999 and decided to form another hip hop group called “Vice Verset”. The group did A lot of concerts across Quebec, and they were best known for their song “Too Hot To Handle”. They were the first Quebec rap group to release A French hip hop compilation entitled “L’Univers Des Lascars”. After realizing that Rebel wanted to sing rather than rap, he then tried to pursue A solo singing career and left the group Vice Verset. Rebel then met his future partner Face-T in A music studio through A producer named Scorpio B.

Face-T

Nicolas Latendresse

Face-T's real name is Nicolas Latendresse. He was born on March 31, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Face-T was born to French-Canadian parents and raised in A small Jamaican village. Face-T spent his childhood in Jamaica where he did his primary studies. It was there, that Face-T familiarized himself with the Jamaican culture, especially reggae. At the age of 10, he expressed himself mainly in English but also in Jamaican Patois and learned to rap in A Jamaican “DJ Style”. Upon his return to Montreal at age 15 to pursue his secondary education, he started working with Don Camilo to form A hip hop Jamaican Patois reggae project. They did several shows and released two mix-tapes that obtained success on the hip hop scene. Face-T passed A lot of his time in courses between 1997 and 1998 in Jamaica, where he also wrote songs and did shows. It wasn’t until 1999 that Face-T met A producer named Scorpio B and started working on French songs, that lead him to incorporate his own unique Jamaican Patois slang into the Quebec French culture. Only at the end of the year 2000, did Face-T meet Rebel and A few weeks later they had formed the group “Kulcha Connection”.
