Tharwa Primary School

Tharwa Primary School was located in the small village of Tharwa, Australian Capital Territory. It was built in 1898 and opened in 1899. The school had two classrooms for the primary school, plus a pre-school room. The current school dates from 1912 [ "Exploring the ACT and South East NSW", J Kay Donald, Kangaroo Press, 1985, p48 ] In the 2006-07 Australian Capital Territory budget, the closure of the Tharwa Primary School was proposed. [ ABC News [http://www.abc.net.au/canberra/stories/s1656934.htm] 7 June 2006 ] The Primary School closed in December 2006. The Tharwa Preschool is still operating. The school and the surrounding community traditionally host an annual Tharwa Fair.
