Doctor Strangepants

Doctor Strangepants

Doctor Strangepants is a fictional character in the animated television series, The Tick. He is completely absent from the comic book series and the live action series.

Strangepants (he was born with the surname Fremdehosen, but anglicized it when he emigrated to the United States following World War II) is the science advisor to Mayor Blank of The City. He is often called in when there is some kind of crisis involving giant monsters or other problems that might be solved with a suitable application of Super Science. As is suggested by his name, he appears to have a strange fixation with giant trousers, and, indeed, giant versions of mundane objects are one of his personality staples. He first appeared in "The Tick vs. Dinosaur Neil," in which he attempted to save the city by constructing a massive pair of men's dress pants suspended by large cranes, and then driving the dinosaur into them, in hopes that he'd put them on. In the episode "Ants in Pants," he attempted to save the city from a rampaging army of ants by constructing a massive chocolate bar, once again suspended by large cranes. In both instances, his efforts were a dismal failure. In the episode "Grandpa Wore Tights," we see a flashback to the early 1950s, where a much younger version of Strangepants was working alongside Joseph Stalin and The Terror, and going by the name "Professor Think."

Strangepants is a German man with a pronounced accent. He is in late middle age with a wild shock of white hair combed in the Conk style popular among black musicians in the 1930s, and uses a wheelchair. He is prone to unexpected bouts of excited yelling, in a manner greatly similar to Peter Sellers titular character from the film Dr. Strangelove, upon whom he is obviously based. His shameful supervillanous past was obviously a reference to Strangelove's Nazi past.

Although a minor recurring character, he functions as something of a polar opposite to Professor Chromedome.
