* July 16 - Reverends Richard Johnson and Samuel Marsden open a church school at Ryde.
* April 26 - William Balmain receives a land grant on the east side of Cockle Bay
* June 26 - Major Joseph Foveaux is appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Norfolk Island.
*July 16 - Richard Johnson and Samuel Marsden open a church school in Kissing Point (Ryde)
*September 7 - Joseph Holt is arrested on suspicion of raising an Irish insurrection.
* September 28 - Captain Philip King sworn in as Governor.
*September 29 - William Patterson is appointed Lt. Governor
* November 19 - First copper coins circulated in New South Wales. To prevent removal from the colony they were issued at double their face value, that is a coin valued at one penny in England was deemed to represent twopence in NSW.
*December 3 - "Lady Nelson" and Lt. James Grant arrive in Southern Australia; Grant names Cape Northumberland, Cape Banks, Mt Schanck and Mt Gambier.
*December 7 - Grant names Cape Otway; the "Lady Nelson" becomes the first ship to cross Bass Strait from the west.
