The dialect used inJaffna is the oldest and most archaic, where asBatticaloa and surrounding area dialect is relatively closer to someIndian Tamil dialects. Dialect used inNegambo area has undergone major morphological changes due to contact with the Indo-AryanSinhalese language .Tamil is a Dravidian language and exhibits a marked
