- Zachary D. Massey
Zachary David Massey was an American politician that represented the 1st congressional district of
Tennessee in theUnited States House of Representatives . He was born onNovember 14 ,1864 in Marshall,North Carolina . He attended the public schools and taught in the public schools of Marshall from 1882 to 1886. He studied medicine in the Louisville (Kentucky) Medical College and commenced the practice of his profession inWears Valley, Tennessee in 1889.He moved to
Sevierville, Tennessee in Sevier County in 1890. During theSpanish-American War , he served as an assistant surgeon. He was thepostmaster of Sevierville from 1899 to 1904. He was a member of theTennessee Senate from 1904 to 1906. He was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-first Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death ofWalter P. Brownlow . He served fromNovember 8 ,1910 toMarch 3 ,1911 , but he was not a candidate for renomination in 1910. He resumed the practice of medicine and also engaged in the real estate business. He died in Sevierville, Tennessee onJuly 13 ,1923 . He was interred in Shiloh Cemetery.
