According to the web site, "Coastal Living" magazine was founded in 1997, as a lifestyle magazine for people who love the coast. The magazine is almost a monthly. It includes stories on home design and architecture, travel, food and entertaining, gardening, coastal towns and communities, and the environment. The magazine is published by Birmingham, Alabama-based [http://corp.southernprogress.com/spc Southern Progress Corporation] , a subsidiary of Time Inc. Sister publications include Southern Living, Cottage Living, Cooking Light, Southern Accents, Sunset, and Health.

The writer's guide says that "Coastal Living" occupies a unique and well-defined niche as "The Magazine for People Who Love the Coast." A general editorial lineup is available on the web site. Stories take readers to homes, destinations, activities, and people along the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf shores of North America. Hawaii and Alaska as well as coastal Canada and Mexico are not left out. The multinational Caribbean islands and U.S. Great Lakes get some coverage. With the exception of features on the Great Lakes, or "North Coast," "Coastal Living" stories are said to "spotlight topics within sight, sound, taste, touch, or smell of salt water."

THE VOICE
Again, according to their web site, "a tone of casual sophistication unfolds between the covers of "Coastal Living"." Regardless of the subject—decorating, entertaining, gardening, travel, nature, or zany beach characters—insider knowledge and ease prevail in the language and images published. The images of home interiors and coastal travel destinations are gorgeous and inspiring.

THE DECOR
"Coastal Living" style beach decor is represented by colors associated with the sun, sand and surf. Homeowners emulate the "Coastal Living" decorating style with light blues, soft beiges and white hues. The magazine has created a tropical chic style through the magazine's images that are indicative of beach style decorating. House plans and idea houses are very popular features of the magazine

THE WEB SITE
[http://www.coastalliving.com/coastal/ Coastalliving.com] is a reflection and extension of the print magazine. Features compliment or add to the print magazine--but there are also web exclusive materials that give product or how-to information. There are freebies like screensavers, recipes, and virtual tours and a community of folks who love the coastal lifestyle.
