Punjab Gharana (sometimes called Punjabi or Panjabi Gharana), is a style and technique of
tabla playing that originated in thePunjab region of what is now split in present dayPakistan andIndia . The style was said to have been founded bySaddu Hussain Bux , but this is somewhat debatedFact|date=February 2007.The distinctive features of Punjab Gharana are:
(1) using the middle finger to sound special notes, and (2) the chilla ritual, which consists of continuous playing for forty days.
