Dymitr Korybut

Dymitr Korybut

Dymitr Korybut ( _lt. Kaributas, modern _be. Карыбут-Дзьмітры) was one of the sons of Algirdas and the ruler of Severian Novgorod.

Korybut was born some time after 1350 (exact date is unknown) to Algirdas of Lithuania and Uliana of Tver. Born a pagan, in 1386 he was baptised in the Orthodox rite and became the prince of Severian Novgorod. He adopted the Christian name of Dymitr (modern Russian Dmitri) and hence is usually referred to either as Dymitr Korybut (a combination of his slavicised Lithuanian name Kaributas and his Christian name) or as Dymitr the son of Algirdas. He married Princess Anastasia, daughter of Grand Prince Oleg of Ryazan, with whom he had three daughters and three sons. Among them were Helena (who later married Jan II of Raciborz), Fedor of Nesvizh (the ancestor of Zbaraski and Wiśniowiecki families), Sigismund Korybut (a claimant to Bohemian Crown), and Nastasia (later wife of Prince Fedor of Kashin).

He died after 1404.
