Russian cruiser Rossia (1896)

Russian cruiser Rossia (1896)

The "Rossia" was an armoured cruiser of the Imperial Russian Navy. She fought in the Russo-Japanese war, being damaged at the Battle of Ulsan where she was the flagship of Rear Admiral Karl Jessen. She was converted to a minelayer before World War I, where she fought in the Baltic. The design was an improved version of the armoured cruiser "Rurik" with extra armour of Harvey steel, more advanced boilers, and more coal giving greater range.

She was built by Baltic Works in St Petersburg, laid down on 20 May 1895, launched on 30 April 1896, entered service in late 1896, and was scrapped in 1922.
