- H. Casey Young
Hiram Casey Young was an American politician and a member of the
United States House of Representatives for the 10th congressional district ofTennessee . He was born onDecember 14 ,1828 in Tuscaloosa,Alabama in Tuscaloosa County. He moved with his parents to a farm nearByhalia, Mississippi in Marshall County in 1838. He attended the local schools, was tutored by his father, and also attended Marshall Institute in Mashall County, Mississippi. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1859, and commenced practice inMemphis, Tennessee . He served in the Civil War from 1861 to 1865 aslieutenant colonel of the Cavalry and on the brigade staff. In 1864, he was Assistant Inspector General for the First Division of the Cavalry.He was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth, Forty-fifth, and Forty-sixth Congresses. He served from
March 4 ,1875 toMarch 3 ,1881 , and was an unsuccessful candidate for re-election in 1880. He was elected to the Forty-eighth, serving in that period fromMarch 4 ,1883 toMarch 3 ,1885 . During the Forty-eighth Congress, he was the chairman of the United States House Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Interior. He was not a candidate for renomination. He resumed the practice of law and died inMemphis, Tennessee onAugust 17 ,1899 . He was interred in Elmwood Cemetery.
