- Lock, Shock, and Barrel
Lock, Shock, and Barrel are fictional characters in the animated movie "
The Nightmare Before Christmas ". Introduced asOogie Boogie 's not-so-loyal "little henchmen" (possibly against their will), all three are trick-or-treaters, with faces similar to their masks (e.g. Barrel's skeleton mask has a huge grin on it and he has a near-permanent grin). Lock, Shock, and Barrel are dressed as adevil , a witch, and a skeleton, respectively. Their names are a play on the phrase, "."In the movie, Lock was voiced byPaul Reubens , Shock was voiced byCatherine O'Hara , and Barrel was voiced byDanny Elfman . In video game spin-offs, Lock was voiced byJess Harnell , Shock byKath Soucie andCathy Cavadini , and Barrel byDee Bradley Baker andJeff Bennett .They are also not very loyal to Oogie as they are simply making mischief to stay on his good side (in other words: they serve him out of fear) and after his death they just have harmless fun, which they seem to enjoy more. However, this is contrasted by their lack of common sense as, presumebly due to their lust for mischief they have shown no protest when their master was revived in the spinoffs, and once out of boredom revived him themselves in "".Also, it should be noted that, while Barrel rarely removes his mask, Lock and Shock rarely put theirs on.
Characters
* Lock is six years old and supposedly the leader of Oogie's Boys, but does not think thoroughly and actually appears to be the least intelligent of the three. Lock wears a
devil costume; his barbedtail moves as though alive, histeeth are pointed sharply, his face is narrow and long-jawed, and hishair is waxed into two horns making him, literally, a handsome devil. His weapon is apitchfork . He loves being large and in charge, and gets upset when others insult him or take the lead. However, he goes along with others' ideas if he cannot come up with anything himself. without his mask he might not have horns but his handle bar style hair makes it look really close
* Shock is seven years old and the most cunning and dangerous, and the only female of Oogie'sminions . She has somecontempt for the other two for their supposed stupidity. Shock wears a purple witch costume with an elongated hat. There is no difference between her mask and her face, other than the former's green color and lack of any features (except eye-holes and a nose). Her weapon is abroom . She is usually quick to patch up any arguments between her and her brothers, if not with the nicest methods. She knows how to bake.
* Barrel is five years old, Oogie's "star pupil," and mistakenly considered the most stupid of the three troublemakers, despite his protests to the contrary. He is the butt of many jokes made by his siblings but usually gets even through his own tricks at which he always gets away with. Barrel wears a skeleton costume and has deformed feet, but otherwise resembles a small human boy, albeit one with whiteskin , sunkeneye s, and perfectly combed back green hair. His face is round and has a perpetual grin, except when he is angry. His weapon is asword . Barrel is usually the pilot of the walking bathtub the trio use as transport. He also likes to eat pumpkins. Barrel is quick to stand up for either of his siblings and appears in fact to be the most intelligent of the three. He also unintentionally bothers Jack when asking him a number of annoying (and somewhat embarrassing) questions."The Nightmare Before Christmas"
Instructing them to "leave that no-account
Oogie Boogie OUT of this!", Jack sends Lock, Shock, and Barrel to "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" (the Halloween Town residents' mistaken name forSanta Claus ). At first, they accidentally capture theEaster Bunny , whereupon Jack apologizes and sends them back. They then capture their true quarry. The trio take Santa Claus to Oogie's lair, where Oogie taunts and threatens Santa. Shortly after Jack defeats Oogie and rescues Santa Claus, a hatch above opens and Lock, Shock, and Barrel appear, having led the Mayor to Oogie's lair.In the deleted scenes, a sequence shows Lock, Shock, and Barrel spectating as Oogie tortures and teases Santa Claus and Sally therag doll . They watch from their moving cage that hangs on a rope; Jack slips down and scares them away before entering Oogie's lair. The only time their names are mentioned in the movie is the scene they say them to the mayor, arguing that Jack had sent for them by name.Video Games

"Kingdom Hearts"
In "
Kingdom Hearts ", after hearing Jack speak of a heart that can control theHeartless , Oogie sends the three out to steal the heart as his plan to take over Halloween Town. After the three are defeated by Sora, Donald, andGoofy , they confess that Oogie sent them. Later in the game they comment how quiet Halloween town has become with Oogie and consider making a ruckus just to liven things up."Kingdom Hearts II"
In "
Kingdom Hearts II ", Lock, Shock, and Barrel start off working asDoctor Finklestein 's assistants, though were promised the Experiment would be theirs to boss around. The three revert to their old ways soon enough when they encounterMaleficent , who revives Oogie Boogie for them. While she and Oogie go off to kidnap Santa Claus, Maleficent gives the trio the use of the Prison Keeper Heartless to hold off Sora and company. The monster keeps the children in a cage underneath its body, but swallows one of them to act as its "pilot." Under Lock's control, the monster's arms turn red and it uses fire magic. Under Shock's control, the monster's arms turn yellow and it ascends into the sky to rain magic bolts down on the party. Under Barrel's control, the monster's arms turn green and it uses physical attacks like swinging the cage and trying to eat Sora. Toward the end of the fight, the monster swallows all three of them, turning its arms black and causing it to go out of control, attacking Sora and party with its full repertoire. After its defeat, the trio run off and unintentionally reveal Oogie's return. In the second visit, the three are accused of stealing presents after they enter Santa's workshop and are caught looking through gifts. Sora,
Jack Skellington and others have to fight these mischievous rascals by knocking them unconscious and putting them in boxes. In the end, the three claim that they didn't steal the presents, as they regarded Christmas toys as lame and stupid, and it's discovered that it was actually Doctor Finklestein's Experiment. They also cause mischief as obstacles in the Making Presents mini game, before and after the fight with the Experiment.
