The area of Byrne Creek, for which the school is named, can be traced to Peter Byrne - who served as reeve (mayor) from 1906 to 1910 [ [http://byrnecreek.sd41.bc.ca/admin/schoolinfo/info.pdf Byrne Creek Secondary School] "Burnaby School District 41"] .
