Eddie Butler (rugby player)

Edward Thomas "Eddie" Butler (Born May 11 1957) is a former Welsh Rugby Union player, who won 16 caps for the Nrut|Wales team, between 1980 and 1984.

Captain of Wales

He played as a Number 8|short=No.8 and captained his country on six occasions.

BBC commentator & journalist

Though retired from playing the game, Butler has written a weekly column in the Rugby Union section of The Observer Sport since 1991, as well as being a BBC match commentator with Brian Moore, the former England hooker.

He has six children, Rebecca born in 1984, Hannah 1986, Jack 1989, Jacob 1997, Nell 2002 and Seth 2004.

Butler was educated at Monmouth School and Cambridge University. He lives in Monmouthshire.
