History
Neilson Grove opened in October, 2000. The new school was named after the family that diked and reclaimed the land on the east side of Ferry Road, George Edward Neilson. George Neilson and his son Edward, who had married Ebba Bowing of Westham Island, bought the 160 acres (0.65 km2) of marsh land on the east side of Ferry Road in 1942 and started the laborious work of diking, draining and breaking their new farm.
George Neilson died in 1949 as did Ed Neilson and his wife in 1985. By this time most of the farm had been sold and their home property on Westminster Avenue was inherited by their son Dr. C. G. Neilson and daughter Mrs. Charles Elliott.

South Fraser Regional Science Fair LogoThe most recent report card data of Neilson Grove (March 12, 2008), states that in the Reading section of Language Arts, 78% of Neilson Grove's primary students are either meeting or exceeding expectations (10% exceeding expectations and 68% meeting expectations).
Canadian Mathematics League LogoIntermediate students also fared well, with 47% of students achieving an A or a B in the Reading section of Language Arts, and 42% achieving a C+ or a C.
Neilson Grove also participates in the annual Canadian National Mathematics League. The school also sends out four intermediate groups, Grades 4, 5, 6, and 7, consisting of four members in each group to compete in the School District 37 Delta annual Math Celebrations.
This year Neilson Grove has been ranked 37th place by the Fraser Institute on the British Columbia Elementary Schools Report Card, which was surprisingly ranked higher than most independent schools, such as Vancouver College (53rd place), Sacred Heart (140th place), Southpointe (112nd place), and so on. Athletic Achievement
In the school year of 2006/2007, a group of three grade 5 boys won first place in the annual Delta Parks, Recreation and Culture Basketball Hoop Shoot. This school year, 2007/2008, a group of three grade 7 girls won first place in the annual Delta Parks, Recreation and Culture Basketball Hoop Shoot.
Delta Optimist LogoIt is the first time ever in Neilson Grove history that the Grade 6/7 Boys' Basketball Team of 2007/2008, won the end of season tournament against seven other South Delta public schools held at Sacred Heart. The team will be mentioned in the sports section of the local Delta newspaper, the Delta Optimist.
The Grade 6/7 Girls' Basketball Team went to the semi-finals in 2007/2008.
Each year, a Grade 6 pinguard tournament is held for all elementary schools in Ladner. For the first time ever, Neilson Grove was represented by two teams at the tournament. Pinguard is a sport that combines throwing skills, to knock pins over, with the strategy of basketball.
Artistic Achievement
British Columbia Dairy Foundation LogoIn the school year 2006/2007, a grade 6 student won first runner up in a Canada wide poster contest, sponsored by the British Columbia Dairy Foundation. Two years later, in 2008/2009, another grade 6 student won first place this time in all of Canada in the same national poster contest. This won the school $500 for funds.
Awards
Neilson Grove staff selects a few of the most extraordinary Grade 7 students and are presented the most honorable award: The Neilson Grove Award, which was originally, and sometimes still called the The Aileen Molloy Award named after the schools first principal, during the Grade 7 Graduation Ceremony.
There is also a monthly award for any students from each grade that deserves to be recognized. These awards are the Neilson Grove Recognition Awards.
Childcare Facility
Bright Eyes Academy, Ladner's fastest growing childcare facility, is located at Neilson Grove Elementary. It benefits parents who have toddlers, who needs to be taken care of, while they go to work. Lots of Neilson Grove students attend Bright Eyes Academy, whose parents get off late at work or leave home early for work.
