In 2005 the Sonoma County Brewery's license was suspended for 20 days when the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control witnessed marijuana consumption at one of the Brewery's parties. This suspension followed an eight-week undercover operation by the department when ABC officers attended Brewery open house events offered by the Brewery to attendees. The brewery chose to commemorate this event by producing a special release of a now-popular strong ale called "The Undercover Investigation Shut-Down Ale". [cite web
