During the 1948 reformation of education, it includes two additional faculties: Agriculture and Agricultural Machines. In 1951, the institute of Electromechanics started to work. First organization of the mathematical research and education were started in 1958 by the foundation of the Pedagogical Institute including faculties for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Philology and Agricultural. Respectively, it encompassed the faculties of Philology, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Agricultural, which were unified under the same administration known by the name of "University of Craiova" in 1965. In 1974, by union of Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, the Faculty of Natural Sciences was founded. The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics was founded in 1991 by union of the Department of Mathematics and Department of Informatics of the former Faculty of Natural Sciences.

Physics' teaching in Craiova has its beginning embodied by 1958 when, inside of the Teaching Institute, the "Physics and Chemistry Section", providing 3 years of study in regular classes, was founded. Since September, 1966, this Section was integrated to the University of Craiova, as the "Physics and Chemistry' Speciality", providing 5 years of study, in regular classes. In 1971, a precisely focused Section was founded: the Physics Section, providing 4 to 5 years of study, in regular classes. To the number of students allowed to this Section was given the limit of 30, by that time. The usual syllabus was of 4 years, but the best among the graduates were enabled to continue their study by the 5-th speciality year. In 1974, the Physics, Mathematics, Informatics and the ancient "Physics and Chemistry" (that was still going on since 1958) Section gathered under the name Faculty of Natural Sciences. This structure kept on functioning till 1990. By then, the Faculty changed its name, becoming the "Faculty of Sciences", inside of which are the Physics, Chemistry (separated), and Geography-Geo-Ecology (gathered) Specialities.

In 1991, it comprise two colleges: one in Craiova and another in Drobeta-Turnu Severin. The college in Craiova comprises four specializations: Technology, Economics, Informatics and Secretarial work. The college in Drobeta-Turnu Severin comprises two specializations: Administration and Informatics. During 90 decade all the faculties of the University developed, enriching their profiles and specializations. The academic year 1989 started with 7 faculties and 16 specializations. In the academic year 1996, it has grown to 14 faculties and 56 specializations. The colleges in Craiova and Drobeta-Turnu Severin offer 18 specializations [ [http://www.ceebd.co.uk/ceeed/un/rom/ro027005.htm University Of Craiova ] ] .
