Waltersburg

Waltersburg

"Waltersburg" is a heavyweight Pullman sleeping car named for a city in Western Pennsylvania. The unit was built by the Pullman Company in 1924 as 12-1 heavyweight sleeper. [http://broadway.pennsyrr.com/Rail/Prr/Fan/pass_cars.html] The car featured twelve open sections with a fold-down upper berth and lower berth made by folding the seats down in each section, and one drawing room — a large enclosed room with three beds and its own toilet and sink. The car was sold to the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1948 as PRR 8968, "Waltersburg" and subsequently rebuilt as PRR parlor car "J. Findley Wilson". The unit went to the Long Island Rail Road around 1957, where it was operated as private commuter club car. [http://www.mindspring.com/~jhdeasy/lirr/page3.html]

Upon retirement the car was purchased and brought to Cincinnati, Ohio. It was later donated to the Railway Museum of Greater Cincinnati in Covington, Kentucky where it now awaits restoration.
